The Learning Centre was originally built to provide day time activities for the 50 residents of Redcourt. It has in the last few years undergone some significant changes from a traditional day centre.

In 2004, The University of Derby, Buxton College agreed to provide a range of classes suited to the needs of people with learning disabilities. Primarily these were certificated courses following ASDAN or ALL learning schemes.

At this time all of the residents who formerly attended 5 days per week choose which courses they wanted to follow on a 4 day per week basis. This freed up some (St Christopher’s) staff time allowing the residents one day per week to work alongside their key worker in Redcourt.

With residents moving off site, the learning centre now offers dedicated learning programmes to our former residents for either 1 or 2 days per week.

The University has qualified and trained staff running these courses and have brought an impressive array of computers and other learning aids to the Learning Centre.
